Inclusive Intersectionality

Our methodology employs a novel hybrid approach which we term: “Inclusive Intersectionality” which honors all of the marginalized identities that we hold, and appreciates the fact that the more marginalized identites we have, the greater trauma we experience. We remain open to critical feedback, and humble when recognizing our privilege, and understand that it limits our perspective and wisdom.

We also center the oppression of the LGBTQIA+ community in this work, while also honoring the reality that female suffering and oppression is absent from conversation from the K-12 social justice discourse—a reality which must be disrupted to bring about an end to sexual violence on our campuses. Towards this end, we therefore intentionally employ the use of the term, “male sexual violence” to authentically name the harm in our schools.

What does “Inclusive Intersectionality” look like:

  • We recognize that all historically marginalized identities must be honored in our work

  • We disrupt exclusive social justice work in K-12 schooling by noticing groups that are being overlooked and actively pursue collaborations with others to deepen our knowledge

  • We empower members from historically marginalized to lead and shape the work because we know that we cannot lead populations we do not represent.

  • We encourage dissenting views, and embrace conflict

  • We see the diminished role that feminist discourse has in the social justice spaces in K-12, and lean into critical feedback, and challenge the status quo to change.
